OHS | PI/SG General Information

New button

Effective March 1, 2010, we will no longer send courtesy notices for insufficient funds, or incomplete or incorrect applications.  It will be the responsibility of the provider to utilize the online system to check the status of the applications submitted and supply any information listed as incomplete or pending, including BCI and FBI results. Any application not completed within 45 days will be closed.  Additionally, any application submitted without a hire date, will be immediately closed.

If any application is closed and the registrant will continue to be employed by your company, a new registration application, OPOTC certificate if a firearm bearer notation is requested, fees and appropriate background checks will be required to be filed in accordance to 4749.06.  If this registrant will no longer be employed by your company, a termination report is required within 10 days of termination as mandated by OAC Rule 4501:5-1-09.

In order to aide in this process, we have made two major changes.  We have updated the forms, which should be easier to complete.  Therefore, after 3/1/10, any application submitted on a form revised before 12/09, will be considered incomplete.

Lastly, in order to insure that BCI and FBI results are received in a timely manner, we will be requiring that all results are sent electronically.  This means, when you are having a BCI and/or FBI completed, the ‘direct copy’ box must be selected with the
Ohio Department of Public Safety/PISG” as the recipient.  This coupon (HLS 0020 Word / PDF) should be completed and taken to the WebCheck provider to ensure proper delivery of future results.

To locate a WebCheck facility, log onto the Attorney General's Web site (www.ag.state.oh.us).  Please contact the location directly to determine which criminal record checks are available at that location, the fee and when a check can be completed.

The Private Investigator / Security Guard Licensing and Registration Unit is holding two PI/SG Informational Seminars a month to help providers and their staff with the task of registering, renewing, adding an FAB, and tracking their employees’ status. This course will cover our online reports, online registrant renewals, the PI/SG Web site, forms, and portions of ORC Chapter 4749 and OAC 4501:5-1. There will also be two guest speakers from the Homeland Security staff who will go over Homeland Security systems called CIMS and C/ACAM that could benefit the industry with informational sharing.

Online Rosters and Registration Renewals
:  Providers may request access to their rosters and online renewal by completing the Online Access Application (HLS 0118  Word / PDF) and submitting it to the PI/SG Unit by fax at (614) 466-0342 or e-mail to PISGLR@dps.state.oh.us.
